It sounds easy. It's not. The challenge requires a steady hand, perfect timing, and just the right amount of suction. Too aggressive and you'll blow past the G. Too timid and you won't reach it. The sweet spot is a zen-like state of Guinness enlightenment that only the truly skilled can achieve.

How to Split the G
Wait for the Pour
Let the bartender pour your Guinness using the sacred 119.5-second two-part pour. Watch the cascade, see the settle, admire the dome.
Line Up the Glass
Hold the glass at eye level and find the Guinness harp logo. The "G" is your target. Center it facing you.
Take Your Sip
Slow and steady. Take a controlled first sip — not too much, not too little. The foam line should bisect the G perfectly.
Check the Result
Remove the glass and check. A clean, straight line through the middle of the G is a perfect split. Show your bartender!
The 119.5-Second Pour
Before you can split the G, you need the perfect pint. At The Leinster, every Guinness follows the traditional two-part pour that takes exactly 119.5 seconds — a ritual we take very seriously.
First, the bartender holds the glass at a 45-degree angle and fills it to about three-quarters full. Then comes the wait. The stout cascades downward as nitrogen bubbles surge upward, creating that iconic swirling effect. Once the surge settles and the liquid separates into a jet-black body with a creamy tan head, the bartender tops it off — pushing the tap forward to create a tight, domed head that sits just above the rim.
